There's no need to travel to an unfamiliar town for your test — the roundabouts, junctions and speed changes you practise on are the ones that will appear on the day.
Lessons cover the awkward bits properly: the High Street with its parked cars and pedestrian crossings, the Old Bridge area, the busy Whitecraig and Wallyford junctions, and the fast A1 slip roads just to the south. The racecourse and Levenhall areas give good quiet space early on for manoeuvres.
Because Musselburgh sits on the Edinburgh boundary, it's also the natural place to start bridging into city driving when you're ready — Portobello and Leith are only a short run along the coast.
