Town driving

All-weather driving

Bends, blind summits, farm entrances and overtaking judgement on national-speed-limit roads.
Night driving
Headlight use, judging speed and distance in the dark, dealing with dazzle.
Dual carriageways
Joining, lane discipline and safe separation on the A1 and City Bypass.
Motorways
Slip roads, lane changes, smart motorway signage and long-distance concentration on the M8 and M9.
Why it's worth doing
New drivers are statistically at their highest risk in the first six months after passing — and the practical test never touches a motorway, rarely happens after dark and can't control for weather. Pass Plus fills exactly those gaps.
The course is normally around six hours of driving with no test at the end. Instead, David assesses you continuously across the modules and signs off when the standard is met.
It's also the part of instruction where David's policing background pays off most directly. Motorway lane discipline, safe separation and overtaking judgement aren't abstract topics to him.
Some insurers offer a discount for a completed Pass Plus certificate — worth checking with yours before booking, as it can offset a good part of the cost.
