Mock tests under real conditions, targeted work on your weak areas, and proper familiarity with the routes around Musselburgh and Currie.
What test prep covers
The practical test is around 40 minutes of driving with a DVSA examiner, including roughly 20 minutes of independent driving, one reversing manoeuvre and possibly an emergency stop. None of that should be new to you on the day.
Preparation starts with a full mock test, run exactly as the real thing: same briefing, same show-me-tell-me questions, same silence from the passenger seat, same marking sheet at the end. That single hour usually reveals more than three ordinary lessons.
From the mock result we work backwards. If observations at junctions are costing you marks, that's the focus. If it's speed awareness in the 20 zones or lane choice on multi-lane roundabouts, that's the focus instead. Generic 'more practice' is a waste of your money.
The final stage is route familiarity. Examiners use a known set of roads around each test centre, and driving them repeatedly removes an enormous amount of test-day anxiety. Test-day tuition includes the drive to the centre and a warm-up beforehand, plus the car for your test.
